SJS announces new principal
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – St. James Catholic School (SJS) in Elizabethtown has announced that John Stith has been selected to serve as principal of the school. Stith enters the new role with extensive experience in education and administrative leadership.
“St. James Catholic School has such a rich legacy of educating and nurturing young minds here in this community, and I am honored for this opportunity to serve as principal,” Stith said. “Drawing on my background in education and leadership, I am committed to bringing the level of determination, compassion, faith, and astute decision making that the students, parents, faculty and staff of this school deserve.”
Stith previously served in leadership roles with Hardin County Schools, including Chief Operations Officer and Associate Superintendent of Finance and Support Services.
Stith grew up as a member of St. Brigid Parish and now attends Saint James Catholic Church. A 1992 graduate of North Hardin High School, he started his educational career as a chemistry teacher at Nelson County High School. Stith has served as Director of Finance at Barren County Schools, assistant principal at Barren County High School, principal at LaRue County High School and principal at Hiseville Elementary School in Barren County. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from the University of Kentucky and has graduate degrees and certifications from Western Kentucky University.
Stith succeeds Sister Maria Christi, who stepped down from her role as principal of SJS last year. Following her departure, Assistant Principal Patrick Black served as Interim Principal.
“With 28 years of experience in education John is well versed in the life of the classroom and the demands of administrative leadership,” said Father Michael Wimsatt, pastor, Saint James Catholic Church. “John comes highly recommended and uniquely equipped to guide our school into the future. As Pastor of St. James I pledge my complete support to him and am eager to collaborate in the coming years.”
