Academics

Fostering a love of lifelong learning.

The SJS curriculum provides students with a solid academic foundation with daily classes in religion, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, and the distinction of being a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. Specialty area classes include music, art, physical education and Spanish. Library and technology standards are integrated into the core curriculum, providing students with tools for life-long learning.

Small class size offers students more individual attention. Teachers differentiate instruction and provide for individual needs. The ability of an exemplary faculty to inform the minds and hearts of the young people they teach in a small, nurturing environment maximizes the success of each student. Full-time teacher assistants in every PreK-4th grade classroom as well as a reading interventionist and math interventionist offer additional instructional support so that every student can grow. One measure of this growth at SJS is the NWEA MAP Growth test, a nationally normed computer adaptive test given in reading, math and language usage three times a year.  Our students consistently perform above the national average as well as the Archdiocesan average in every grade level.

Ultimately, success is measured by the accomplishments of our students as they transition to high school. Local high schools often remark that SJS graduates make up the best part of their school. They are well-rounded students from a background with required community service hours, high academic standards and expectations of personal success. Students are given the opportunity to graduate with Algebra I and Spanish I credits.
