Mrs. Peak’s Spring Chicks Hatch!

Spring has officially sprung in Mrs. Peak’s Kindergarten class, and with it came one of the most exciting moments of the year—classroom chicks have hatched!

Before spring break, over several weeks, students eagerly observed an incubator filled with eggs, and learned all about the life cycle of chickens. Each day brought new questions, predictions, and lots of excitement. They talked about what chicks needed to grow, how long it takes for them to hatch, and what might happen inside each tiny shell.

Then, the big moment arrived. Over a few days tiny cracks appeared in the eggs and then the chicks started to break free! One by one, they hatched. The students were fascinated by how the chicks looked when they first hatched—wet, wobbly, and tired—and how quickly they began to fluff up and move around.

This hands-on experience is always a highlight of Mrs. Peak’s class each year. Students learn about patience, responsibility, and the beauty of nature. They also practiced observation skills, ask thoughtful questions, and made connections to what they’ve been studying in class.

We are so proud of our young learners for their curiosity and care throughout this process. What a wonderful way to welcome the spring season!
