Position Description

Position Title: Part‑Time Cafeteria Worker
Reports To: Cafeteria Manager / School Administrator
Schedule: Part‑time (school days; 4.5 hours)

Employment Classification: Hourly, non‑exempt

Position Summary

The Part‑Time Cafeteria Worker supports the daily operation of the school cafeteria by assisting with food preparation, meal service, and cleanup in a safe, efficient, and welcoming manner. This position helps ensure that students and staff receive nutritious meals in a clean, orderly, and respectful environment that supports the school’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with food preparation according to established menus and portion guidelines
  • Serve meals to students and staff in a courteous and orderly manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cafeteria, kitchen, and serving areas
  • Wash dishes, utensils, trays, and kitchen equipment as needed
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies
  • Monitor cafeterias during meal times to ensure appropriate behavior and safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or administration

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to work effectively with children and adults
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform light to moderate lifting
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in food service, cafeteria, or related setting
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices (training may be provided)
  • Experience working in a school setting

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily in a school cafeteria and kitchen environment
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting items such as trays or food containers
  • Must be able to tolerate a fast‑paced environment during serving times
