Thomas R. Clark, Jr. to Receive 2025 Senator Joe Prather Distinguished Alumni Award

Saint James Catholic School will award the 2025 Senator Joe Prather Distinguished Alumni Award to Thomas R. Clark, Jr. during the school’s annual Black and White Knight Auction & Gala on February 1, 2025. The award was established in 2022 to honor an attendee of Saint James Catholic School or any other school associated with Saint James Catholic Church, including Elizabethtown Catholic High School.

Thomas (Tom) R. Clark, Jr. was born on August 21, 1947, in Cecilia, KY and attended St. Ambrose Catholic School, St. James Catholic School, and Elizabethtown Catholic High School, graduating in 1966.

In 1967, Tom joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably until 1971. He then pursued his passion for horology at Gem City College, where he developed his craft as a watchmaker and jeweler. After completing his studies, he married his wife, Shari, with whom he shares a wonderful family: three children—Mitch, Geoff, and Diana—and eight grandchildren, as well as one great-grandchild. Mitch and Geoff both live in Elizabethtown, where their children attended St. James Catholic School, continuing the family’s commitment to faith-based education. Diana resides in Ohio with her three children.

Tom began his career at Clark Jewelers in 1972, working full-time with his family until 2012. A dedicated professional, he also earned his Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America.

For nearly 70 years, Tom has been a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church, where his contributions have been many. He has served as a Eucharistic minister, usher, RCIA sponsor, and youth mass musician. Together, he and Shari have coordinated the Region 10 youth retreat for more than 10 years, creating a legacy of support and guidance within the church and community.

Tom’s commitment to service extends beyond the church. An active member of the Knights of Columbus, he has served on the boards of Helping Hand, Helping Hand of Hope, and St. Vincent de Paul, where he currently holds the position of President. In recognition of his tireless dedication, he was honored with the Dot Hansen Award from Helping Hand of Hope. His efforts with the Knights of Columbus to host the Brotherhood Banquet for over 40 years have raised millions for Kosair for Kids.

Through his dedication to Catholic education and unwavering support, Tom has helped raise significant funds to support the education of countless children. His legacy is firmly rooted in his commitment to faith, family, and community, values he has instilled in his children and grandchildren.
